Frequently Asked Questions

These FAQs explain how we work, what we can machine, our lead times, file formats, how we collaborate with your engineering team, and more. If you don’t see your question answered here, contact us, our experts are ready to discuss your specific project.

Why work with Cutting Experts?

We deliver exceptional quality and reliable lead times on every precision machining project. Supported by advanced CNC technology, our domestic manufacturing team totals well over a hundred years of combined industrial fabrication experience. We enjoy providing flexibility to our customers by working with a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, composites, alloys, and rubber.

Can Cutting Experts machine complex or custom precision parts?

Yes. We specialize in custom high-precision machined parts, including complex geometries, thin-wall components, tight-tolerance features, and intricate designs. Our engineering team supports DFM (Design for Manufacturability) to optimize cost and performance.

Where does Cutting Experts manufacture and fabricate parts?

We proudly produce American-made parts out of our Georgia-based facilities. All machining, quality control, and final inspections are performed domestically to ensure consistent quality, fast turnaround, and reliable supply chain control.

How long will it take to get a response to my request for a quote?

Immediately. Most submittals during the workday window will receive a response within the hour. All submittals will receive a response within one business day. Our team reviews requests promptly and strives to respond as soon as possible.

What high-precision machining services do you offer?

We offer comprehensive high-precision CNC machining services, including CNC milling, CNC turning, Swiss machining, and multi-axis machining (3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis). Our capabilities also include drilling, tapping, reaming, grinding, and other secondary machining operations to produce complex precision components.

What materials can you machine?

We machine a wide range of metal and plastic materials, including:
  • Metals: Aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, brass, copper, titanium, Inconel, tool steel
  • Plastics: Delrin (POM), Nylon, PTFE (Teflon), PEEK, ABS, PVC
  • Engineering & specialty alloys for demanding applications

What production volumes do you support?

We support prototype machining, low-volume production, and high-volume CNC manufacturing, from 1 piece to 1,000+ pieces, while maintaining consistent quality and tight tolerances.

Do you work directly with customer engineering and design teams?

Yes. We work closely with customer engineering, design, and manufacturing teams throughout the Southeastern United States and nationwide. Our collaborative approach ensures that part designs are optimized for precision CNC machining, cost efficiency, and manufacturability from prototype through full production.

How do you support engineering collaboration during the design phase?

  • We provide early-stage engineering support, including:
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) feedback
  • Material selection recommendations
  • Tolerance analysis and optimization
  • Feature simplification to reduce machining cost and lead time
  • Prototype iteration support and engineering change management
  • This proactive collaboration helps prevent costly redesigns and accelerates time to production.

How do you manage engineering changes and revisions?

We follow a controlled engineering change process, ensuring that all revisions are documented, reviewed, and approved prior to production. This helps maintain part consistency, traceability, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.

What industries do you serve?

Our precision-machined components are used in demanding industries, including:
  • Industrial automation and robotics
  • Electronics and semiconductor equipment
  • Agriculture and heavy equipment
  • Military and defense
  • Automotive and EV components
  • Energy and power generation
  • Consumer and commercial products

What surface finishing services are available?

We offer a full range of surface finishing and post-processing services, including:
  • Anodizing (Type II & Type III / Hard Anodize)
  • Powder coating
  • Electroplating (nickel, chrome, zinc)
  • Passivation
  • Bead blasting
  • Heat treatment

What CAD file formats do you accept?

We accept most standard CAD and drawing formats, including:
  • STEP / STP
  • IGES / IGS
  • SolidWorks files
  • DXF / DWG (2D drawings for reference)

Do you offer FAI (First Article Inspection)

Absolutely, we are happy to tailor any project to meet customer needs, including offering FAI (First Article Inspection) upon customer request.

Do you offer assembly or secondary services?

Yes. We provide secondary machining, light assembly, kitting and custom packaging to deliver ready-to-use precision components.

How do I request a quote for high-precision machined parts?

To request a fast and accurate CNC machining quote, please provide:
  • 2D drawings and/or 3D CAD files
  • Material specifications
  • Required quantity and tolerances
  • Surface finish and inspection requirements

Do you support shipping throughout the Southeastern United States?

Yes. We offer reliable regional shipping throughout GA, AL, TN, SC, NC, and FL, as well as nationwide.

What are the advantages of domestic CNC machining for Southeastern manufacturers?

Domestic manufacturing offers several key benefits for customers in the Southeast and Nationwide, including:
  • Shorter lead times compared to overseas suppliers
  • Improved communication and responsiveness
  • Higher quality control standards and traceability
