An OEM had expensive precision parts and no reliable way to track them. We built a vendor managed inventory program with laser marked serialization and a searchable database so they always know exactly what they have and where it is.

Service: Vendor-managed Inventory (VMI) · Laser Marking & Serialization · Parts Database

The problem

An OEM was carrying a significant investment in precision machined parts; high-value components critical to building and servicing their equipment. The parts were there. The problem was knowing where they were, how many they had, and when to reorder.

Inventory was disorganized and largely untracked. Identical-looking components couldn't be told apart, there was no reliable count of what was actually on hand, and no record of which part was which. That left the customer exposed on every side: paying to expedite parts they may have already had, tying up cash in stock they couldn't see, and risking a line-down or a missed build because nobody could confirm the right part was available when it was needed.

The solution

  1. Serialize every part with laser marking. We gave each component a unique identifier, laser-marked directly onto the part, permanent, legible, and tamper-resistant, with no tags to fall off. Identical-looking parts became individually identifiable for the first time.

  2. Build the database. Each serialized part was entered into a searchable database tying the mark to its specifications, quantity, and location. The customer went from guessing to knowing what they have, where it is, and what it is, on demand.

  3. Run it as vendor-managed inventory. Rather than hand back a system the customer had to police, we manage the inventory for them. We monitor stock levels, replenish before shortages happen, and keep the database current — so the parts are organized and stay organized.

The solution

Full visibility. Every high-value part is identifiable, counted, and locatable through the database.

Less capital tied up in the dark. No more paying to expedite parts they already owned, or over buying stock they couldn't see.

It stays organized. With VMI, the system is maintained for them, not a one-time cleanup that drifts back into chaos.
